Head Coach John Schofield was pleased with his squad's first pre-season outing of the summer after he watched them defeat Lincoln United 2-1 at Ashby Avenue on Wednesday evening.

Schofield used the game to give the majority of his squad a run out whilst a number of trialists including former Grimsby Town defender Gary Croft, ex-Sunderland man Kevin Smith, ex-Yeovil player Anthony Tonkin and Irishman Steve McCarthy gave him plenty to think about after the match.

"It was a good test for us and was an ideal chance to give the majority of the lads a decent run out," said Schofield

"As it was the first outing of the pre-season there was a bit of ring-rust around as you would expect but in general we retained the ball well, had some some good passages of play and got into good crossing positions.

"The only disappointment was to concede late when we were two up and that's something we need to eradicate.

"On the plus side the fitness levels were good and all the trialists did well and gave us food for though. It's credit to our scouting network that the quality of the players we've brought in are of a standard that we require."
