Lenny Gets Shirty!
Teenage striker Lenell John-Lewis was last night reunited with his white away shirt.
After coming on as a late substitute at Stockport County on Tuesday, 18-year-old John-Lewis netted his first senior goal for the Club, securing all three points for the Imps in the process.
Following the final whistle the youngster's shirt was literally ripped off his back by manager Peter Jackson amongst the celebrations and thrown amongst the 191-strong band of travelling Imps' fans.
"I had told myself that when we won our first game away from home I would throw one of the player's shirts into the crowd because the fans haven't had a lot to cheer for in the past six months," said Jackson.
"Lenny was the nearest player to me and before he knew it I'd thrown his shirt into the away end."
During the post match press interviews, second year ASE student John-Lewis was asked whether or not he would like his shirt returned.
The person who had been lucky enough to catch the shirt was life long supporter Jill Hewson and as soon as she heard the interview on BBC Radio Lincolnshire she phoned the Club to arrange to hand Lenny's shirt back to him.
"I was thrilled to have caught his shirt but we knew that it was a very special shirt for Lenny and after hearing his interview on Wednesday morning we contacted the Club," said Jill.
The handing over of the shirt caused somewhat of a 'media frenzy' with BBC Radio Lincolnshire, the Lincolnshire Echo and BBC Look North all wanting to cover the story of Lenny's lost shirt.
Manager Peter Jackson, who has on hand to personally thank Jill and her husband Gary before Thursday night's AGM, added: "I can't believe we can't even give the shirts away but in all seriousness I know that Lenny is over the moon to have the shirt back, and I've told Jill and Gary that we'll get a signed shirt sorted out for them."
After receiving his shirt Lenny said, "I really pleased to have the shirt back and I can't thank Jill enough for her kind gesture."
