Dany N'Guessan starred as City picked up their second successive victory on Saturday with Accrington Stanley on the receiving end of a 2-0 scoreline at Sincil Bank.

N'Guessan fired the Imps into a 31st minute lead with the big Frenchman drilling home after unselfish play from Lee Frecklington saw the City midfielder play the ball into the path of the flying Frenchman.

City dominated for much of the game and grabbed a deserved second midway though the second period when Louis Dodds fired into the roof of the net after the ball ran into his path following a break forward by Mark Stallard.

Man of the Match N'Guessan was a constant threat throughout the game and he came closest to adding a third when his powerful 25-yard drive stung the hands of Kenny Arthur who did well to palm the ball behind for a corner.

Match report by John Vickers at Sincil Bank Stadium:

Manager John Schofield made one change to the starting XI who were on show at Mansfield for this Coca-Cola League 2 game against Accrington Stanley at Sincil Bank with fit-again Lee Beevers replacing Paul Green at left-back for his first outing of the season.

Hot and sunny conditions greeted the two sides as they made their way out onto the pitch and it was the Imps who got things underway, attacking the IMPS Stand in the opening period.

It was the visitors who enjoyed the majority of the opening five minutes or so with play mainly centred down Stanley's left hand side but it was the Imps who forced the first corner of the afternoon with the clock in the 10th minute. Lee Frecklington's chipped effort into the box, however, landed straight into the gloves of Accrington 'keeper Kenny Arthur.

A second corner on the opposite side quickly followed and when a quickly taken flag-kick was floated in left-footed by Frecklington it skimmed off Nat Brown's head and out for a goal kick. The big City centre-back will no doubt feel as though he should have done better though.

Jamie Forrester then tested Arthur at his near post after he was picked out by Louis Dodds; Frecklington's delivery from the quadrant on this occasion almost falling to skipper Adie Moses but an Accrington defender stuck out a boot an intercepted the ball.

It was a good period of pressure by City and good work from Dany N'Guessan down the left saw him twist and turn his way past a couple of players before sending in a decent centre which was hacked out for a throw-in and when the ball was back in play the Frenchman saw his chip claimed under the bar by Arthur.

A break in play due to an injury to Lee McEvilly as the opening period approached its midway point gave players from both sides the chance to take some fluid on board. Shortly afterwards, good work from N'Guessan saw him force City's fourth corner of the game but Frecklington fired the dead ball straight into the side-netting.

Just after the half-hour mark City grabbed a deserved lead.

The goal came after Forrester spotted the run of Frecklington through the middle. Frecklington could well have gone on himself but some unselfish play from the Lincoln-born midfielder saw him lay the ball off to Dany N'Guessan on the left. The big Frenchman did the rest, drilling a powerful left-footed drive past Arthur for his first goal in City colours.

N'Guessan was buzzing now and seconds after the restart his saw his 25-yard right-footed shot clip a defender's foot before going inches wide for a corner before he bulldozed his way forward before curling in a centre which unfortunately played too far in front of Mark Stallard.

A late challenge on Louis Dodds by Romuald Boco saw the Stanley man earn a ticking off from referee Jarnail Singh when a yellow card looked a possibility. Mr Singh then had words with N'Guessan after the City man left his foot in on Philip Edwards.

A great saving challentge from Mark Roberts then denied Frecklington after he and Forrester had again exchanged passes whilst a trip on N'Guessan by Edwards gave City a free-kick close to the corner flag. Frecklington's subsequent ball in was flicked on at the near post but was just too high for Forrester to direct goalwards at the back stick.

Two minutes of added time was then indicated by Fourth Official Wayne Grunnill and although the Imps dominated for those extra 120 seconds they couldn't add a second.

No changes were made during the break so it was as you were as the teams took to the pitch for the second half.

As was the case in the opening period, the visitors enjoyed the lion's share of things from the start, forcing their first cortner of the game four minutes after referee Singh got the second 45 underway

City's response saw Forrester and Hand link up before the latter laid the ball into the path of N'Guessan who saw his run on goal denied by a saving tackle by Edwards. N'Guessan headed over the resultant corner.

Accrington's response saw them win another corner which came to nothing and in the 55th minute their boss John Coleman made a change with David Brown replacing James Harris.

On the hour mark, a foul by Lee Frecklington on John Miles gave the visitors a chance from a free-kick 25 yards from goal. Miles took the responsibility himself but chipped his effort over the bar.

In a bid to change things around, N'Guessan and Dodds swapped flanks a couple of minutes later and it wasn't long before both sides had half-chances; Stanley the first with Edwards testing Marriott whilst Forrester went one-on-one with Arthur only for the visiting 'keeper to spread himself well and block his final shot.

It wasn't long before City were on the attack again and this time they made it count when, after Stallard was bundled to the deck as he prepared to pull the trigger, he saw the loose ball fall to the feet of Louis Dodds who hammered into the roof of the net for his second in as many games.

Romuald Boco was immediately replaced by Shaun Whalley for the visitors whilst five minutes afterwards Ollie Ryan came on for Jamie Forrester for the Imps and Chris McGrail replaced Paul Mullin for Stanley.

A cynical challenge on N'Guessan by Robert Williams earnt the Stanley defender a deserved yellow card 14 minutes from time. The card could quite easily have been red as Williams had no intentionof going for the ball after N'Guessan was played in by Ryan. From the free-kick, taken by Frecklington, Brown headed over.

A couple of minutes later, with the clock showing 78 minutes played, Louis Dodds made way for Owain Warlow and shortly after this change, a break forward from N'Guessan saw him beat a couple of players before winning a corner.

A powerful centre from N'Guessan led to another flag-kick as the game entered its final 10 minutes and when Warlow played the ball in N'Guessan could only head over.

The flying Frenchman then had a stinging drive palmed behind for another corner and after this was cleared, Steve Torpey came on as an 85th minute replacement for Mark Stallard up front.

In the final minutes, good pressure from Ryan on Williams saw City force their 11th corner of the game and the play was all centred in the Imps' attacking third as three minutes of added time came and went.
