Goals from Ben Wright and Paul Green saw the Imps extend their winning run to three matches with a 2-1 success at Morecambe lifting them up to 14th place in the Coca-Cola League 2 table.
City took the lead just before the break when teenager Gary King played in Ben Wright who drilled a low shot across Morecambe 'keeper Scott Davies and although they rode their luck at times, with Adie Moses and Gary Croft clearing efforts off the line, they were always the most dangerous going forward and added a deserved second when Paul Green jinked his way through the home defence before netting his first of the season.
The Imps had chances to add a third before the Shrimps netted a consolation effort in the dying stages of added time; striker Matthew Blinkhorn firing past Ayden Duffy from six yards.
The only negative to come from the game was was the sight of Martin Pembleton being stretchered off with with a twisted knee.
Match report by John Vickers at Christie Park:
Assistant Manager Iffy Onuora named an unchanged starting XI for this Coca-Cola League 2 game at Morecambe. The only change to the squad who were in action against Brentford in the previous match came on the bench where available-again Dany N'Guessan replaced Owain Warlow.
This was City's first Football League visit to Morecambe's Christie Park and the players were backed by a decent number of fans who had made the long trek west for the final game on the road this season.
Steven Cook from Surrey was in the man in the middle and their was a carnival atmosphere in the air as play got underway.
Morecambe kicked off and were the early recipients of a free-kick when City skipper Lee Beevers bundled Matthew Blinkhorn to the deck in the centre-circle. The Imps dealt with the resultant set-piece though and were able to clear their lines.
Keeper Ayden Duffy had an escape in the third minute when he slid to the edge of his box only for the ball to squirm from his grasp. Blinkhorn was on the spot to latch on to the loose ball but his effort on the turn landed on the roof of the net.
Shortly afterwards, a cross from Garry Thompson saw Duffy save at the second attempt and before play restarted the City stopper required treatment after taking a knock to the head as he smothered the ball on the six-yard box.
Another stoppage in the ninth minute made for a stop-start opening; this time it was Morecambe's Garry Hunter who went to ground. When play resumed a swift break forward by the Imps saw Jamie Forrester cross for Lee Frecklington only for the latter to see his control let him down and the ball went out for a goal kick.
Morecambe's response saw Blinkhorn drag a shot across the face of goal and wide of the post before a sliced clearance from Duffy saw Carl Baker try his luck from range but the ball went a foot over.
It was Baker's turn to receive treatment in the 18th minute when he was pushed to the floor by Adie Moses before landing awkwardly whilst another foul by Moses, this time on Blinkhorn, saw the experienced defender pick up the game's first yellow card.
Blinkhorn was certainly looking lively up front for the hosts and midway through the opening half he curled an effort wide after he got the better of Gary Croft down the middle whilst at the other end a deep cross from Martin Pembleton saw Danny Adams concede the game's first corner. The neatly-worked flag-kick saw Dodds play the ball to Forrester but home 'keeper Scott Davies was well positioned to save the game's first effort on goal.
Morecambe's response was to win a corner of their own but Frecklington cleared at the near stick whilst at the other end Dodds was denied by Davies who sprinted off his line to claim a Pembleton ball inches inside his box.
City had Adie Moses to thank in the 34th minute when he cleared a Blinkhorn shot off the line after Duffy failed to claim a cross and when City replied they forced two more corners; the second being headed goalwards by Gary King only for the ball to be hacked clear.
King then came close to connecting with an excellent Green centre before a mistimed challenge on Baker by Lee Beevers saw the City skipper join Moses in the book.
Three minutes before the break, the Imps took the lead courtesy of a clinical piece of finishing from BEN WRIGHT.
Teenager Gary King was the architect, winning possession in the middle third before bursting through the centre. He laid a cushioned ball into the path of Wright and he did the rest by taking the ball forward before drilling a low shot across Davies and into the bottom corner of the net.
Less than a minute later Dodds had a shot deflected effort inches wide as the Imps pressed for a second whilst at the other end Duffy pulled off a fine one-handed save to deny Thompson midway through the two minutes of added time.

Neither side made any changes during the break so it was as you were as the Imps got the game underway again.
The hosts were the first to press following the restart with a Michael Twiss cross being deflected behind for a corner which City dealt with and as they responded good work from King saw him win a corner at the opposite end. When the ball was played in Pembleton let fly but Davies produced a wonderful save to tip the ball behind.
Morecambe's response saw Craig Stanley escape the offside flag before seeing his mis-hit effort cleared off the line by Gary Croft. At the other end Croft was upended by Henry McStay who earned a caution for his troubles.
Shortly afterwards, an excellent ball over the top from Pembleton set Wright free down the middle but the big front-man dragged his shot wide after he got the ball under control before bearing down on Davies.
Davies then saved from King before great work from Forrester saw him create space down the left before playing the ball into the danger zone but Pembleton, at full stretch, couldn't get his effort on target and his touch saw the ball go wide for a goal-kick.
Before play could restart, the 17-year-old required treatment, presumably for an injury sustained in his stretching for the ball, and looked to be in some discomfort as he was stretchered from the field. Shane Clarke came on as his replacement on the hour mark.
It was all City but a Morecambe counter-attack saw Blinkhorn curl a 25-yarder against the upright before excellent defending from Green saw him deny Twiss at the far post. The Shrimps then forced their fifth corner of the game but Duffy commanded his area well to claim Baker's ball in.
In the 68th minute a limping Adie Moses was replaced by Danny Hone whilst a minute later a tactical change for the hosts saw Wayne Curtis come on for Michael Twiss.
City's next attack saw King denied by both Davies and Artell but City kept up the pressure and they made that pressure count when PAUL GREEN fired home a superb first of the season.
Played in by Forrester after he had taken a throw-in on the right, Green skipped past a number of home defenders before firing past Davies from six yards out. Cue wild celebrations from Green and the Imps' 500-strong travelling band of fans.
Green came close to adding a second when he spotted Davies off his line but his free-kick from just inside the Morecambe half drifted a foot wide of the target. A surging break then ended with King firing wide after Forrester, Wright and centre-back Beevers all streamed forward.
Seconds after Forrester fired a 79th minute shot over on the turn, the hosts brought on Jon Newby for Garry Thompson whilst the Shrimps made it six corners apiece four minutes later but Duffy punched to safety.
City certainly looked the more likely to add the game's third goal and they came close to doing just that with four minutes remaining when Dodds saw his effort from the edge of the box beat Davies only to crash against the upright.
At the other end brave goalkeeping by Duffy saw him save well from Blinkhorn and with a couple of minutes on the clock, Dany N'Guessan was given a run out in place of Gary King.
N'Guessan's first touch saw him set Forrester free but his cross to Wright was intercepted by Davies before the Fourth Official indicated that a minimum of four minutes were to be added on.
Gary Croft then came close to getting his name on the scoresheet but his effort from N'Guessan's lay-off was blocked for a corner. At the other end, the hosts gave themselves a chance of getting something from the game when a ball into the area fell to MATTHEW BLINKHORN who, after bringing the ball under control, drilled under Duffy.
When play restarted, just 30 seconds of added time remained on the clock, and most of these were eaten up when substitute Curtis blazed a long range effort well over the bar. After Duffy played the resultant goal-kick forward, referee Cook blew for time with the City players quick to acknowledge the travelling fans.
