He was brought to Sincil Bank as City were without a first choice goalkeeper following the retirement of John Kennedy and he proved to be an instant success, signing permanently two months into the season for a then Club record fee of £16,666. A proportion of this fee being raised by the supporters after a public appeal.

After making his debut at home to Chester, Grotier went on to make 134 consecutive League appearances for City and missed just four games in all competitions during his first four seasons at Sincil Bank.

Named in the PFA Division Four Team of the Year in both 1974/75 and 1975/76, he was an inspirational figure in City's Championship success during the latter campaign.

He was also nominated by the Daily Express for their League Division 4 "Footballer of the Year" in 1975/76 whilst he was the Lincoln City Player of the Season in 1977/78.

After a total of 233 League appearances (263 in all competitions), Grotier moved to Cardiff City in February 1980 for £25,000 having initially linked up with the Bluebirds on loan.

He played 38 League games for the Welsh outfit before returning to Lincolnshire with Grimsby Town. He appeared for the Mariners in an FA Cup game against Watford at the age of 36 and later became reserve-team coach after his playing career came to an end.

Despite being a goalkeeper, Grotier netted three times for City - all three being penalties and all three coming in Lincolnshire Senior Cup matches!

Having returned south, Grotier is now a very successful shoe wholesale importer in Essex.
