Striker Lee Thorpe joined the Imps just prior to the start of the 1997/98 season having spent the previous four seasons with Blackpool, making just 12 League appearances for the Bloomfield Road outfit.
He went on to become a prolific marksman for City and was the Imps' top scorer in all competitions in each of his five seasons at Sincil Bank. His 67 goals from 233 League and cup appearances puts him 10th in the all-time list of Lincoln's goalscoring greats.
One of 20 players to have netted 50 or more Football League goals for the Imps, Wolverhampton-born Thorpe began his career as a trainee with Blackpool before turning professional there in July 1994.
He scored once in three games during a loan spell with Bangor City in September 1995 but after failing to establish himself at Blackpool, he was allowed to leave and on August 4th 1997, he moved to Sincil Bank on a free transfer.
In addition to netting his fair share of goals, he also collected his fair share of cards though and was sent off four times during his Lincoln career. Two of these dismissals came in successive games in October 2001, leading to a seven match suspension.
Despite this questionable disciplinary record, 'Thorpey' was still one of the key members of the City squad but the dire financial situation at the Club, which came to the fore in May 2002, saw him move to Leyton Orient on a free transfer on the same day that the Club went into administration.
He went on to make 55 League appearances for the O's, scoring 12 times which included a late equaliser against City at Brisbane Road, and following a spell on loan with Grimsby Town, he moved to Bristol Rovers in March 2004 having been placed on the transfer list and told his contract would not be renewed.
He found the goals hard to come by at Bristol, although one of his four Rovers goals came against the Imps, and after a short spell with Swansea City and a loan period with Peterborough United, he moved to Devon to help Torquay United avoid the drop to the Conference.
He made the move to Torquay permanent in May 2006 and, despite being known as a striker, he has doubled up as an emergency centre-half when required this season.
