An apprentice plumber before signing full-time professional forms with home town team Barnsley, Yorkshireman Peter Graham had scored 43 goals in 119 appearances for Darlington prior to his arrival at Sincil Bank for a fee of £12,500 in September 1973.

Although it took him 14 games to get off the mark in a City shirt, the classy striker went on to become a regular on the score sheet, netting 47 times from 158 League games for the Imps, although a serious knee injury curtailed his outings in what promised to be a prolific 1975/76 Division Four championship-winning campaign for him.

After scoring 11 times from 13 starts before Christmas, including a hat-trick in a 3-2 win at Crewe Alexandra, Graham's injury forced him to undergo surgery on New Year's Day and it wasn't until the beginning of the following season before he returned to first team action.

He netted 17 times from 33 appearances in 1976/77 whilst the following season was his last with the Imps as he joined Cambridge United in the summer of 1978. Ironically, his last goal for City came in a 4-1 home win over the U's.

Rated by many as being the most skilful and stylish City players of the 1970s, Graham had the chance to join Sunderland on loan prior to his arrival at Sincil Bank only for injury to prevent this move whilst following his retirement from playing he was assistant manager at Cambridge before being handed the managerial reins at Newmarket Town.
