Left-sided central defender Kevin Austin was on Leyton Orient's books as a schoolboy but was released and played in non-League football before signing for the club again from Saffron Waldon in August 1993.
He went on to make 109 League appearances for the O's before signing for the Imps in the summer of 1996 for a fee of £30,000 and was a regular in the Imps' starting line-up during his three seasons at Sincil Bank.
Named 'Player of the Season' by City fans at the end of the 1997/98 promotion campaign, Austin's only goal during his time with the Imps came in the 2-1 home win over Manchester City in October 1998 but following relegation at the end of that season, he moved on a 'Bosman' free transfer to Barnsley.
In just his sixth match for the Tykes, which ironically came against the Imps in the first round of the League Cup, Austin picked up a serious knee injury which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Austin returned to action in October 2000 whilst on loan with Brentford and on his return to Barnsley, he went on to make his full international debut for Trinidad & Tobago, against Panama in a World Cup qualifying tie.
He was injured again whilst training with his national side and was released by Barnsley in the summer of 2000. He then signed for John Beck's Cambridge United, even though he was still recovering from injury, and went on to make half a dozen League appearances for the U's.
Released by Cambridge in March 2002, Austin had a short spell with Kettering Town before he signed for Bristol Rovers, managing a full season of League football for the first time since his departure from City.
Austin is currently plying his trade in League 1 with Swansea City, who he joined in June 2004, and is fast approaching the 100 appearance mark for the Welsh outfit having played the majority of the last couple of seasons at left-back.
