Prior to his arrival at Sincil Bank, Liverpool-born left-back Stuart Bimson was part of the successful Macclesfield Town team during their Conference days, having previously been skipper at Southport.

Bimson joined Macclesfield for £5,000 and his performances for the Silkmen drew the attention of Football League scouts and he moved to Bury in February 1995 for a fee of £12,500 just a few days before he was due to receive his first England semi-professional cap.

A popular character both on and off the pitch, 'Bimmo' enjoyed promotion with Bury in his first full season at Gigg Lane but, after just one appearance for the Shakers at the start of the 1996/97 season, he linked up with the Imps in late November 1996 on an initial month-long loan spell.

Bimson made the move to Sincil Bank permanent in late December along with Bury's Phil Stant, although a number of injuries made it difficult for him to hold down a regular first team place over the following few seasons.

He was, however, a virtual ever-present in his final campaign with the Imps and he played a large part in helping City reach the Division 3 Play-Off Final against AFC Bournemouth.

The 5-2 defeat by the Cherries at the Millennium Stadium, however, proved to be his last in a Lincoln shirt as he left for Cambridge United, having rejected the offer of a new contract at Sincil Bank.

A change in management during his time at Cambridge saw him spend a time on loan with Accrington Stanley before he linked up with Canvey Island in the summer of 2005. After 12 months with Canvey Island, Bimson linked up with Chelmsford City.
