Lincoln City Ladies extended their winning league and cup run to eight matches on Sunday thanks to a 3-0 home win over Tranmere Rovers.

City opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Carla Ward headed home a Kerry Smith corner; the ball bouncing over the line off the underside of the bar, whilst the division's top scorer Jodie Snelson added a second midway through the second half.

The third came in stoppage time courtesy of a Kerry Smith thunderbolt with the win keeping the Lady Imps in touch with Nottingham Forest at the top of the FA Tesco Women's Premier League Northern Division.

"The conditions today were very difficult," said manager Rod Wilson after the match.

"The pitch was a bit hard and it was very windy, and to be fair I don't think we played that well, but credit to Tranmere.

"They gave us a very hard game and I don't think they deserved to lose by three goals. The positive for us from this game is that even when we are playing poorly at the moment we are still grinding out wins, and that is what really counts for us at the moment."
